HMRC Tax Repayment Scam Alert

HM Revenue & Customs issues a warning on ‘phishing’

Many of us would dearly like a tax repayment, and an invitation from HMRC to claim one might be difficult to resist.  Please, please don’t be fooled by such an invitation as it will be completely bogus!

Taxpayers around the country are receiving such scam email purporting to be from HMRC, advising them that they are due a repayment and ‘all’ they have to do is complete a form to claim it.  Unfortunately that form will end up being used to steal your identity and undertake some fraudulent activity which will, eventually, come back to haunt you.

HMRC is aware of this scam and has posted warnings on it’s own website.  You can access this directly via www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/current.htm, selecting known scam examples.
